It's been a while since our last announcement, so there's a fair bit to catch everyone up on! Across the last few releases we fixed "Car Compatibility" (it works again!), got Gmail support approved and working, and restored MMS & RCS message support after Google's SMS/MMS permission policy forced us to remove it from the main app.
Speaking of MMS: since the main app can no longer read MMS messages directly and stay compliant with Play's policy, real MMS/RCS reading now lives in an optional, separately-distributed MMS Reading Add-on. Most people don't need it — the main app still reads MMS notifications automatically, same as before — but if your phone or messaging app doesn't give us enough to work with in the notification alone, the add-on reads MMS (and RCS, as a side effect of how most messaging apps store it) directly.
The bigger change in this release: Cloud Backup replaces the old Google Drive backup option. Back up and restore your preferences straight from the app's menu, no cable or file manager required. It does require an active subscription, and the first time you use it we'll email you a verification code just to make sure it's really you.
We also now target Android 16, so the app stays compatible with the newest devices, and there's a long tail of reliability and stability fixes across calls, SMS, MMS, and Gmail readouts that came out of everyone's bug reports.
